The Karakum desert creates extreme temperature shifts. Avoid intense summer highs by choosing pleasant transition windows.
April and May offer beautiful desert conditions. Temperatures are pleasantly warm, spring steppe flowers briefly cover the sands, and city tours are highly comfortable.
July and August feature intense heat inside the desert, with temperatures regularly crossing 45°C. Tours are adjusted for early morning or late evening excursions with climate-controlled 4x4 cabins.
September and October represent another prime window alongside spring. The desert heat completely fades away, leaving perfectly crisp clear days and ideal camping nights at Darvaza.
Winters can get surprisingly cold and windy due to arctic winds hitting the open flat terrain. Desert camping is heavily restricted during this time, but urban monuments remain accessible.
Most international flights touch down at Ashgabat's modern falcon-shaped international terminal (ASB). Our direct guide meets you immediately right at migration control gates.
